The
San Francisco Giants won the World Series in 2010, missed the playoffs
in 2011, won the World Series in 2012 and missed the playoffs in 2013.
Their quest to continue the trend and win another World Series in 2014
took a major step forward on Monday with the addition of free-agent
right-hander Tim Hudson on a two-year, $23 million contract.Hudson is
coming off a devastating ankle injury, with a broken bone and ligament
damage suffered when he collided with Eric Young Jr. of the Mets on a
play at first base in July. His recovery has been going smoothly — and
obviously there are few concerns about his ability to return to full
health if he is getting a contract this early in the offseason.
Nobody’s
health is really a sure thing at the age of 38, but it also is
important to keep in mind that Hudson is dealing with a leg injurynike shox shoes
rather than an arm injury, and while the right foot is his plant foot,
it’s still a lot less worrisome than if he were trying to come back from
a busted elbow or shoulder. If Hudson remains himself — a pitcher who
held opposing batters to a .299 on-base percentage in 21 starts last
season — the Giants have the makings of a downright nasty rotation, with
Hudson slotting in behind Madison Bumgarner, who was fifth in the
National League in ERA and seventh in strikeouts, and Matt Cain, whose
1.156 WHIP in 2013 was better than Hudson’s 1.Wholesale Lingerie Sexy Lingerie188
but who mysteriously staggered to a 4.00 ERA, his worst since 2006.In
fact, Hudson might even be considered the Giants’ No. 2 starter. While
Bumgarner was sixth in the majors in fewest bases allowed per inning
this year, Hudson was 21st among pitchers who worked at least 100
innings, right behind Zack Greinke and Justin Masterson, and ahead of
Andrew Cashner and Yu Darvish.
With Tim Lincecum remaining in San Francisco,Isuzu Auto Parts the
addition of Hudson marks a significant improvement over Ryan Vogelsong
or Barry Zito, with another pitcher still needed to fill out the Giants’
rotation. For the sake of poetry, say it’s Zito and that seven years
after signing a contract with a former A’s ace that they were all but
doomed from the start to wind up regretting, the Giants did well this
time around with a former hero from the other side of the Bay.One thing
that will not particularly factor into Hudson’s deal is the fact that
San Francisco is the hardest place in baseball to hit a home run off a
right-handed pitcher,Sexy Lingerie Factory with
only 75 hit there in 2013. Hudson has surrendered only 220 home runs in
2813 2/3 career innings. Of the 187 pitchers who have thrown at least
2,000 innings since 1961, Hudson’s rate of 0.70 homers allowed per nine
innings ranks 42nd.canada goose jacket women Bronson
Arroyo, another rumored Giants target, is 185th on that list, with only

Peyton Manning and Broncos hand Chiefs first loss in 27-17 victory
The
Chiefs had followed a certain formula in forging a 9-0 record, one
based on sacks, turnovers and just enough offense to get by.That all
came apart,Sexy Lingerie Factory as
did their unbeaten record, at Sports Authority Field Sunday night.
Their 27-17 loss to the Broncos gave plenty of ammo to their critics,
including one Denver columnist who labeled them as frauds. It also made
pretty clear they’re going to need a lot more offense than this to beat
the big boys.“It’s terrible. It’s not fun,” said Chiefs quarterback Alex
Smith. “It’s a big game and big environment. To come here and come up
short hurts and stings."Now tied with the Broncos for the AFC’s best
record at 9-1, they’ll get another shot at them at home in two weeks,
when things will have to be different.canada goose jacket women“We
aren’t going to lose our confidence,” K.C. linebacker Derrick Johnson
said. “We are a good team and we are 9-1 right now. At the same time, we
need to figure out a way to beat Denver. It is just just one game and
we didn’t do what we usually do.”It’s not that their No. 1-ranked
defense didn’t come to play. But it needed to play great, not just good.
It needed to create turnovers and it got only one on a handoff Peyton Manning botched to Montee Ball in the first quarter at the Denver 16. It got one play’s rest before the Chiefs offense gave the ball right back on Anthony Sherman’s fumble. It also needed to get some heat on Manning, who had come out of his last two games against the Colts and Chargers pretty well battered.nike shox shoes Both ankles were heavily taped Sunday and the right one had a brace. But the pass rush that came into the game with a league-high 36 sacks only got two hits on Manning, a virtual sitting duck, and never knocked him down. It’s a disturbing trend. The Chiefs have now gone two games without a sack with one in the last three games.“The guys up front really answered the bell,” said a grateful Manning, who helped his own cause by getting the ball out so quickly. “They had a great challenge against an excellent pass rush.Wholesale Lingerie Sexy Lingerie It was critical to the game tonight.”So was Manning’s defense – or was it the inept Chiefs’ offense? In addition to Danny Trevathan forcing that key fumble in the first quarter, the Denver "D" came up with the other big play of the night when backup LB Steven Johnson, in for the injured Trevathan, stopped Jamaal Charles on the goal line, forcing a field goal. That brought the Chiefs back to within 17-10 but the entire night, you never got the feeling that the Chiefs could muster the drive that would make it a game. The K.Isuzu Auto PartsC. defense forced three straight punts to start the second half but each time, the Chiefs punted it back until Ball scored his second TD of the game to cap off a six-play 65-yard drive that made it a two-score game with 2:22 left.
“There are plenty of things we’ll learn from here and get those fixed,” said Chiefs coach Andy Reid, whose record fell to 13-2 after a bye. “To start with, when you have an opportunity to score touchdowns against this team, you need to score touchdowns and not kick field goals. We had opportunities there to score points after the stops and we didn’t follow up offensively. We’re a young football team. We’ll get it worked out.”“It’s good in some ways,” Smith said. “We have to find a way to deal with it. How many teams have ever gone undefeated in the history of pro football? We see them again in two weeks but we have to prepare for another big division game. These games keep getting bigger.”The Chiefs could be back on top of the division when they meet in the rematch. They play the Chargers next week while the Broncos travel to Foxborough for a Manning-Tom Brady showdown against the Patriots. The Broncos could be without Wes Welker who suffered a concussion and went back into the game.“We’re not even thinking about the game two weeks from now,” Broncos LB Shaun Phillips said. “We’re going to enjoy this one and get ready for a really good New England team and Tom Brady. If we skip them, we’re going to have a loss. We can’t do that.”

Broncos' defense struts its stuff in beating Chiefs
The
dazzling defensive demonstration definitely was worthy of the
league-leading Chiefs.Only, comma, it was put on by the hometown
Broncos, exclamation mark. The Broncos punctuated the Chiefs in the
"Game of the Millennium" 27-17, period. On a Sunday night when the moon
above was full, the Chiefs below generally came up empty against the
Orange's most crushing defense of the season. The last time the Broncos
held an opponent to as few as 17 points was last season."It was a good,
tough hard-fought win at home," Broncos coach Jack Del Rio said. "We did
enough to win. We knew they had a good defense coming in. Our offense
did a good job of moving the ball and getting points."Arriving at this
crucial divisional matchup in the 10th of 16 games, the Chiefs were
allowing only 12.3 points per, and nobody had scored more than 17.Chiefs
quarterback Alex Smith, who had been managing well in nine consecutive
victories, completed only 21-of-45 passes against a dominant defense
that produced three sacks for 30 yards, five quarterback hits, plenty of
hurry-hurries and rock-solid coverage.Isuzu Auto Parts Shaun
Phillips, Danny Trevathan, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Wesley Woodyard

Patriots down, 10-3, at halftime
The
Carolina Panthers defense won the battle in the first half and head
into halftime with a 10-3 lead over the Patriots. The Panthers first
touchdown came at 2:50 of the first quarter as Cam Newton hit Brandon
LaFell for 9-yard score. The biggest story of that drive, however, was
the constant fighting between Aqib Talib and Steve Smith. The pair got
tangled up on more than one occasion. Talib was hit with a 15-yard
unnecessary toughness penalty during their first fight, which brought
Carolina to the 19-yard line. Eventually, Newton hit LaFell for the
first score of the game. The Patriots looked bound to score in the second
quarter but a Stevan Ridley fumbled stopped everything.First, Ridley
was a big part in getting the Pats down the field. The running back had a
13-yard run, which brought the Pats to the Carolina 43. Tom Brady was
then sacked by Star Lotulelei for a loss of 9 yards. Faced with a

He then hit Shane Vereen for a 17-yard gain.Following Stevan Ridley’s fumble, LeGarrette Blount got in the game. He helped get the Pats into Carolina territory and down to the 26. A Logan Mankins unnecessary roughness penalty, however, pushed the Pats back to the Carolina 41.Faced with a second-and-25, Brady hit Danny Amendola for 3 yards and Rob Gronkowski for 14.
