Patriots down, 10-3, at halftime

The Carolina Panthers defense won the battle in the first half and head into halftime with a 10-3 lead over the Patriots.The Panthers first touchdown came at 2:50 of the first quarter as Cam Newton hit Brandon LaFell for 9-yard score. The biggest story of that drive, however, was the constant fighting between Aqib Talib and Steve Smith.The pair got tangled up on more than one occasion. Talib was hit with a 15-yard unnecessary toughness penalty during their first fight, which brought Carolina to the 19-yard line. Eventually, Newton hit LaFell for the first score of the game.The Patriots looked bound to score in the second quarter but a Stevan Ridley fumbled stopped everything.First, Ridley was a big part in getting the Pats down the field. The running back had a 13-yard run, which brought the Pats to the Carolina 43. Tom Brady was then sacked by Star Lotulelei for a loss of 9 yards. Faced with a fourth-and-2, from the Carolina 35, Bill Belichick went for it. Following Carolina’s field goal, the Patriots answered with a field goal of their own. With 1:13 left in the first half, the Panthers have a 10-3 lead.Tom Brady started this drive off with a 23-yard pass to Kenbrell Thompkins. He then hit Shane Vereen for a 17-yard gain.Following Stevan Ridley’s fumble, LeGarrette Blount got in the game. He helped get the Pats into Carolina territory and down to the 26. A Logan Mankins unnecessary roughness penalty, however, pushed the Pats back to the Carolina 41.Faced with a second-and-25, Brady hit Danny Amendola for 3 yards and Rob Gronkowski for 14. The Pats offense came back out on the field for fourth-and-8, but called a timeout and sent Stephen Gostkowski out on the field for the 42-yard field goal.The Panthers turned a Stevan Ridley fumble into a field goal and have taken a 10-0 second quarter lead.Following the turnover, the Panthers took over at the 13-yard line and Cam Newton wasted no time and drove 62 yards down the field.The quarterback hit Brandon LaFell for a 17-yard gain. Next, Newton did damage on the ground and ran for a 24-yard gain to bring the ball to the New England 30. Faced with a third-and-10, Newton’s pass fell incomplete, but Aqib Talib was called for pass interference.The Panthers were able to get five more yards and eventually brought in Graham Gano, who hit the 43-yard field goal. 

Unfortunately for the Pats, most of it came from Aqib Talib and Steve Smith fighting or Cam Newton hitting Brandon LaFell for 9-yard touchdown. Carolina heads into the second quarter with a 7-0 lead.Both Talib and Smith have been jawing at each other for most of the opening quarter. Talib was hit for a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty, which ended up giving the Panthers great field position before their touchdown.The Patriots held the Panthers to a three-and-out on the opening drive.Nike Air Max Talib started and was on Smith.
